Interventions
An intervention is a thoughtful and premeditated event during which family, friends and loved ones come together, directed by a qualified professional in order to confront someone with a drug or alcohol problem and effectively motivate them to seek treatment. In one form or another most people who abuse drugs and alcohol have lost contact with reality to a point where they believe that their behavior is normal or acceptable. This is termed "denial", and can impair the alcoholic or addict from accurately assessing their substance abuse problems, or even rationalizing its existence all together.
An effective intervention is intended to be a loving and dramatic jolt of reality. Being confronted by family and friends who have a real sense and knowledge of the afflicted person albeit with a healthy dose of "tough love," can be extremely effective in inspiring someone on a new path of recovery. The presence of an experienced professional interventionist is integral to this process. He is an objective third party who can help guide and maximize the effectiveness of the intervention.
