Overcoming Addiction with Blue Cross Substance Abuse Insurance

Paying for rehab can seem overwhelming when you’re struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction. Fortunately, Blue Cross substance abuse insurance can help you pay for the treatments you need. Even if you suffer from depression or other co-occurring conditions, you may qualify for long-term psychiatric care, as well. Overall, it’s imperative that you understand exactly how your insurance works – and what kinds of therapies you can expect.

Employee Assistance Programs

If you contract for insurance through your employer, then you’ll probably have access to an employee assistance program. Blue Cross uses EAPs to coordinate and confer healthcare benefits to workers in need. You’ll first need to speak with your EAP representative, who you can most likely reach through your human resources department. They can then refer you to detox clinics, rehab facilities, or psychiatrists in you area.

Varied Treatment Plans

Not all addicts attend the same types of programs. If you’re severely chemically dependent on alcohol, opiates, or other habit-forming substances, then you’ll most likely need inpatient rehab. You’ll live for thirty to ninety days at your clinic, and you’ll spend your weekdays in intensive therapies and helpful classes. In most cases, inpatients are able to take leaves of absence from their jobs and return to work once they’re clean.

However, not everyone needs the involvement and supervision of inpatient treatment. If you suffer from a more minor addiction – or if there’s no way for you to take time off for your recovery – you can also attend an outpatient program. You’ll be able to maintain your career and family life as you spend just a few hours per week in therapy. Still, you’ll undergo the same effective treatments that all patients receive.

Individual Contracts

Health insurance can be prohibitively expensive for people who are self-employed, but you still have several options if you’re contracting on your own. Blue Cross substance abuse insurance is available and most states, and you can often find affordable rates.

If you’re concerned about costs, you may want to consider your long-term financial plan. Even if you end up paying more for insurance now, you will likely qualify for self-employed tax deductions later. Plus, sustaining any addiction is far more expensive than paying for drug treatment and staying clean.

High-Risk Pools

If you’ve already been through drug treatment before, then you may have trouble qualifying for future coverage. Drug abuse is rarely listed as a pre-existing condition, but some companies are wary of people who have already shown propensities for addiction. Any diseases you’ve contracted due to drug use may also make it more difficult to get the help you need.

Fortunately, many states now have special insurance pools for “high-risk” patients. You may need to pay more per month than you would through a normal provider, but you’ll be far better off in the long run.

Whether you’ve gone to rehab before, or you’re getting help for the first time, Blue Cross substance abuse insurance can help you get back on your feet. To find out more about your available coverage, fill out the insurance verification form to the right of this page now. No matter how badly you’re struggling now, we can help you make an incredible recovery.
